"Short History of the Little Nestucca River Valley and Its Early Pioneers" written about South Tillamook County, Oregon
The page below was written by Mrs. Hardy Rock (Alexandria LEY Rock) and published in 1949. NVMS students have retyped her history so that many may read it. Although some punctuation errors have been corrected the text remains as written by Mrs. Rock.
Note that Alexandria LEY Rock's "Short History of the Little Nestucca River Valley and Its Early Pioneers" has been republished in book form as of January 2007 and is now being offered for sale by the Tillamook County Historical Society!

Leo Steiner; J.H. McCorkle of Silverton was another. The men and women hiked to Oretown for mail, 5 miles distant; the mail then was bi-weekly. The clam-beds in Little Nestucca Bay were two miles farther on but this was considered- carrying a gunnysack of clams home on their backs. The Dallas Bank usually camped there for two weeks and furnished music for old time dances. The nearest store at that time was at Woods, on the Big Nestucca River.
Later on, Mr. Austrin built a nice cottage on higher ground, and sold out to Dan Fry of Salem. Dr. Lee Steiner and Mr. Jarman also built modern residences there. A Mr. Pugh erected one farther south close to the cape. No one camps now at the site of the first camp ground.
